At some juncture, the New York Yankees will likely endeavor to revive JT Brubaker’s career post his Tommy John surgery rehabilitation.

Pirates' JT Brubaker has Tommy John surgery, expected to return in 14 to 16 months - The Athletic

Brian Cashman acquired Brubaker on March 29, skillfully concealing the specifics of the “player to be named later” until nearly May. Speculation swirled among Pirates fans regarding the potential significance of the prospect involved, leading to conjecture about MLB-ready relievers and thorough scrutiny of minor-league rosters.

Contrary to expectations, the bullpen wasn’t the destination, but the magnitude of the return shouldn’t have been underestimated.

The Yankees evidently have faith in Brubaker’s potential for a complete and impactful recovery, evident in their decision to deplete their infield depth by sending Keiner Delgado to Pittsburgh. While Cashman has a history of making astute concession choices (particularly in dealings with the Pirates), this transaction seems more questionable compared to “Clay Holmes for Hoy Park.”
