This year, one of the most prominent names in the AFL market is Tim English, the talented ruckman from the Western Bulldogs. According to Jon Ralph, a reporter from the Herald Sun, it’s likely that English, aged 26, will extend his stay at the Bulldogs beyond 2024 with a lucrative contract, possibly spanning up to seven years and totaling around $7 million.

Despite being eligible for free agency and hailing from Western Australia, where the West Coast Eagles are interested in him, English seems inclined to stay loyal to the Bulldogs. Alongside players like Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Bailey Smith, he is among the notable Bulldogs whose contracts expire this season.

Ralph, speaking on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle, believes that English’s commitment to the Bulldogs is strong due to his happiness, loyalty, and desire to win premierships with the team. Despite some doubts raised by his seventh-place finish in last year’s best and fairest award, the Bulldogs’ management has signaled their intention to retain him.

Ralph defended English against criticism, highlighting his impressive performance in the 2023 season, where he earned his first All-Australian selection and showcased his skills as both a ruckman and a goal kicker.

Regarding potential suitors, while West Coast remains a contender due to English’s ties to Western Australia, there’s also speculation about a Victorian club expressing interest in him, potentially offering strong competition for his signature. Sam Lansberger from the Herald Sun suggests that while Jamarra Ugle-Hagan might renew his contract first, English’s departure shouldn’t be ruled out, particularly if an appealing offer comes from a Victorian club.

TAYLOR SET TO DRAW MASSIVE OFFERS

Reports from The Age suggest that Sam Taylor, the talented GWS Giants defender, is poised to receive substantial offers exceeding $1 million per season from rival clubs, including those in his home state of Western Australia.

Set to become a free agent next year, Taylor, often referred to as a ‘pre-agent’, is anticipated to attract considerable interest from teams should he decide to explore his options in the market.

His manager, Trevor Clisby of StrategyOne, has initiated initial contract discussions with the Giants, who are mindful of the potential competing offers.

In response to speculation about his contract situation, Taylor expressed his commitment to the Giants, citing his enjoyment of being part of a promising team with a bright future. However, he remains open to considering his options and is focused on playing for a successful club that prioritizes winning games.

Acknowledging the upcoming contract negotiations as somewhat different from his past experiences of signing contracts well in advance, Taylor emphasized that the ultimate decision rests with him.
