With the NFL Draft just days away, a fresh roster model from The Athletic’s Austin Mock brings promising news for the Green Bay Packers.
Mock’s model, which ranks all 32 NFL teams using “Expected Margin of Victory (xMOV)”—a stat built on player performance and positional value—places the Packers in a strong position. Green Bay scored +2.6, tying for sixth overall with the Buccaneers and edging out the Rams and Commanders. Within the NFC, only the Eagles and division-rival Lions rank higher.
The Packers’ roster earned praise for its balance across the board. While it may lack a superstar to elevate the ceiling, the model credits the offense for its overall strength. Analyst Austin Mock notes that adding a true No. 1 receiver or a dominant pass rusher could further elevate the team.
Meanwhile, the model remains skeptical of the Chicago Bears, citing rookie quarterback Caleb Williams’ expected adjustment period and an underdeveloped defensive front.
Green Bay’s ranking may steer draft-day decisions. With solid offensive depth, the Packers could turn to defense early, especially at edge or corner. Though they’ve met with several receivers during the process, recent history suggests they may wait before drafting one.
While Mock’s model doesn’t deliver any shocking revelations, it reinforces the notion that the Packers are quietly in a strong spot. If the front office agrees, it might just set the stage for a rare, aggressive push on draft night.
