Stefon Diggs still has work to do to prove he’s the perfect fit in the New England Patriots locker room, especially after a few controversial moments this offseason.
But for rookie quarterback and franchise centerpiece Drake Maye, there’s no doubt about the impact the veteran receiver is already making.
“\[Diggs] seems like an awesome teammate,” Maye told reporters Monday at the start of mandatory minicamp. “He’s my locker mate… we talk all the time. He’s a veteran in this league. He’s made a lot of plays, played in a lot of big-time games.”
Maye praised Diggs as a valuable voice for the Patriots offense and receiver room, noting his playoff experience and leadership. “I think once he recovers \[from his ACL tear], and gets back out there, I’m looking forward to throwing him some footballs.”

This endorsement aligns with past sentiments — Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported in March that Diggs was well-liked by both teammates and coaches during his time in Buffalo and Houston.
Most importantly, Maye’s confidence in Diggs sets a positive tone for the season. With both players expected to be key to New England’s success in 2025 and beyond, a strong rapport between them is critical.
While Diggs isn’t without flaws, if he builds a strong bond with Maye on and off the field, he’ll be worth every bit of the three-year, \$63 million deal he signed in March.
